Deleting your account and your data
Last updated 13 September 2026
In the app: open Account, tap Delete account, and confirm. Nothing else is needed.
Only your files: open Account and tap Delete Oakbox content instead. Your files go straight away and your account stays. The end of section 1 says what it removes.
Without the app: email support@oakbox.me from the address on your account with the subject "Delete my account". We do it within 30 days and confirm by email.
Cancel your subscription first. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought from Apple or Google — only they can do that, and it keeps billing you if you skip this. Section 4 says how.
1. Deleting from the app
- Open Oakbox and go to the Account screen.
- Tap Delete account.
- Enter your password if your account has one, and confirm. Accounts that sign in only with a passkey are not asked for a password.
You are signed out straight away and the account stops working immediately.
Deleting only your Oakbox content. On the same screen, tap Delete Oakbox content, enter your password if your account has one, and confirm. This happens immediately and cannot be undone. It removes:
- every file you uploaded, from our object storage;
- every file Oakbox synced from OneDrive — our record of it, not the file in your Microsoft account;
- the text we extracted from those files, its search embeddings, and its topic tags, including the private records on Factiii that hold them;
- your synced folders and your Ask history.
It keeps your account, your sign-in, your OneDrive connection, and everything else you did on Factiii. It does not cancel a subscription.
2. What happens next: a 30-day grace period
Deletion is scheduled, not instant. For 30 days the account is closed but recoverable, so that a deletion made by mistake — or by someone who got hold of your device — can be undone. To cancel during that window, sign in and choose Keep my account, or email us.
After 30 days, permanently and without further notice:
- Your files are deleted from our object storage. Every object you uploaded is removed.
- The text we extracted from every file, its search embeddings, and its topic tags are deleted with it.
- The account record itself is deleted from our database, with your email address, display name, biography, avatar, banner, password hash, and two-factor secret.
- Your sessions, passkeys, notification settings, preferences, and your OneDrive connection with its stored tokens are deleted.
- Your orders, payment records, and subscription records on our side are deleted.
- Anything you did on Factiii with the same account — posts, messages, votes, follows — is deleted at the same time.
Backups run on their own rotation and are overwritten in the ordinary course. We do not restore a deleted account from a backup.
3. What we cannot delete for you
- Your OneDrive files. We never held them. Disconnecting or deleting removes our access and our index; the files stay in your Microsoft account, untouched.
- Apple's and Google's record of your purchase. They billed you, not us, and they keep their own receipts under their own policies. Ours go; theirs are theirs.
- Anything under a legal hold. Rare, and we will tell you if it applies to you.
Deleting your Oakbox account also deletes your Factiii account. They are the same account; see section 7 of the Privacy Policy. To keep the account, delete only your Oakbox content instead.
4. Cancel your subscription before you delete
Apple and Google own the billing relationship. We cannot cancel a subscription for you, and deleting your account does not cancel one.
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Oakbox → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Play Store → profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Oakbox → Cancel subscription.
5. Take your files with you first
Deletion is not reversible after the grace period, and we cannot recover a file afterwards. Download anything you want to keep before you start: open a file in the app and save it to your device. If you have a lot of them and would like an export instead, email us and we will arrange one.
6. Other requests about your data
You do not have to delete your account to exercise your rights. Email support@oakbox.me from the address on your account to ask us to:
- send you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- correct something that is wrong;
- restrict or object to a particular use;
- transfer your data to another provider.
We answer within 30 days and we do not charge for it. We may ask you to confirm who you are before we act — that check protects your account, and it is the only thing we use the confirmation for. Section 9 of the Privacy Policy sets out the rights these requests draw on.
